Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District

Impacts of Permeable Pavers on Soil and Water in Iowa

In Spring of 2013, the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with the University of Iowa, HBK Engineering, and other city agencies and SWCD's across the state to submit a grant application to the State Soil Conservation Committee to conduct research and gather information on permeable paver applications to better understand their impacts on surrounding soils and receiving water bodies in Iowa. In July of 2013 the District was notified that they were awarded the full $75,000 for a two year grant.

In the past 12 months partners have installed monitoring equipment at numerous sites across Iowa and data collection has begun.

Check out this Story Map for the locations around the state, and before/after photos.
